Will custom-built application delivery controllers in massive data centers replace off-the-shelf hardware?

Cost is a definite disadvantage of customized solutions.
Other issues include complexity and difficulty to support.

How long before the term "cloud" starts to fade away?

I don't think it will fade away...
More likely, the term will become far less charged and become more common-place like SaaS is today (vs 5 years ago)
We still say "the internet" or "the web", albeit without all the hoopla and drama of a decade ago. ... more
