Cloud and mobile trends mean networks must now deliver applications faster, safer, cheaper

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the cloud talk. How much more challenging is it to back up information in the cloud vs.on an internal server? Is there a difference? Does my question even make sense?
I appreciate any responses to help clarify more
