Would you invest in a start-up that does not believe in mentoring?

Hi Adele,
I would not invest in a start-up where the management team does not believe in mentoring since it's a reflection that the individuals are closed-minded and lack sufficient experience to appreciate different perspectives, advice or the concept of mentoring.

What kinds of licenses do I need in order to start an NPO in California?

In addition to Elle's advice above about checking in with the CA Secretary of State, you'll also need to be recognized as a nonprofit by the IRS. It is the IRS designation of 501(c)(3) that provides your tax-exempt status.
